Sky Takes Part in WNBA Read to Achieve

No sooner had the Sky’s three new draft picks checked into their hotel for Rookie Orientation Camp, they were out in the Chicago community at the William H. Brown elementary school. Here the ladies conducted a Reading Rally as part of the 2006 WNBA Read to Achieve Initiative.

Candice Dupree, Jennifer Harris and Kerri Gardin, along with other 2006 WNBA rookies, met their newest fans during the morning’s activities that involved a school assembly with question and answer session. During this time, the players talked about their favorite books, authors and how important reading has been to them throughout their life.

The WNBA rookies visited classrooms and spent time reading aloud to small groups of students and then took questions about what life is like as a female athlete.

Being curious about the city; Candice, Jennifer and Kerri found time to interact with the students and ask some questions of their own about Chicago, but not before signing autographs for their young fans. Candice, Jennifer and Kerri join the Sky as they take the floor for the very first time in May.
