There is no doubt that the Sky have had plenty of problems against New York in the past, losing the last five times they played them. However, Sylvia Fowles put that all behind her and proved why she is a candidate for MVP this season, scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds as the Sky defeat the Liberty 85-73 and improve their record to 3-1 for the season.
This is the third straight game that Fowles has scored over 20 points. Fowles wasn’t the only one on fire Friday night at Allstate Arena. Michelle Snow was 5 of 6 from the floor and finished the game with 13 points and 7 assists. Epiphanny Prince added 17 points and 8 assists making this the fourth straight game in double-digits.
The Sky trailed the Liberty 31-36 at the half. Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half with the Sky shooting 36.4 % from the field and the Liberty shooting 44.4 % from the field. In the second half the Sky came out ready to play and began of the third with a 3-0 run to go up 37-36 and never looked back. The Sky out scored the Liberty in the paint 34 to 28 to recorded their third straight win and second straight at home.
The Liberty were led by Cappie Pondexter, WNBA's 2010 second leading scorer, and Essence Carson who scored 20 and 12 points as the Liberty drop to 2-3 for the season.
