High School Team of the Week #4: Chicago Vocational Career Academy

Chicago Vocational Career Academy (CVCA) expects nothing but the best from its students and the Lady Cavaliers are a shining example. The Lady Cavaliers closed the 2012-2013 season with a sensational 17-0 record. The team went on to win the Chicago City Conference Championship. Currently the team is in the process of rebuilding, and the expectation of unmatched effort and academic excellence continues.

Under the leadership of Coach Lisa Sykes, the team has worked extremely hard to develop a program that encourages academic excellence as well as superior athleticism. In addition to performing well on the court, Coach Sykes insists that the girls' academics remain top priority. The team maintains a 3.8 grade point average. Many seniors have been accepted to college, receiving both academic and athletic scholarships.

The Avalon Park community and CVCA alumni have shown great support in Lady Cavalier events such as Pack the Stands, faculty night, and senior night. The CVCA Lady Cavaliers are a positive example of sportsmanship, hard work, and dedication. The young women continue to remain positive role models, with their futures as bright as their ambitions.

As a Chicago Sky “High School Team of the Week” award winner, Chicago Vocational Career Academy is invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court.

All teams that compete in IHSA 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome through March 19. At the end of the 10-week program each weekly winning team will be entered to win the “High School Team of the Year” award for 2014. The winner, determined through online voting, will be announced at halftime at a 2014 Chicago Sky game.
