Team of the Week: Immaculate Conception (ICCP) Lady Knights

This season ICCP finished with an overall record of 25-8. The girls won their second conference championship in school history with an 8-2 record in Suburban Christian Conference games.

The Lady Knights continued to collect hardware as Regional, Sectional and Super-Sectional champions. For the first time in school history the Lady Knights made the IHSA Class 2A Final Four. Their fourth place finish in the state tournament capped off a historic season for ICCP. With a lot of young talent the Lady Knights hope to be in contention for next year’s championship.

Aside from basketball, ICCP team members participate in fundraising efforts for multiple charities. The Lady Knights hold an annual Coach’s vs. Cancer game night to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. Through this event alone, Immaculate Conception has raised more than $15,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Additionally, each winter the ICCP Lady Knights participates in Operation North Pole. Through this project the girls help wrap and distribute gifts for families and children in need. The ICCP girls pride themselves on giving back to those less fortunate members of the community each year.

As a Chicago Sky “High School Team of the Week” award winner, Immaculate Conception Lady Knights are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will receive on-court recognition.

All teams that compete in IHSA 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions were eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations came from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players through March 12.

Now that the 10-week program is complete all 10 winners are eligible to become the Chicago Sky’s 2014 “High School Team of the Year”.

The winner will be determined through an online voting process beginning on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 and announced at halftime of a Chicago Sky home game this season. Click here to view the ten schools that are in the running for the 2014 Team of the Year.
