Maccabi Ashdod was able to take hold of first place after dominating Elitzur Holon 76-49. Ashdod established a presence down low against Elitzur Holon scoring 60 points in the paint and grabbing 47 rebounds compared to 30 rebounds by Elitzur Holon. The Sky’s Tamera Young had 15 points and eight rebounds and Ashley Shields also had 20 points and seven rebounds in the win. Maccabi Ashdod will look to increase its first place lead when they take on Maccabi Ramat Hen on the road in the next round of games.

Regular Season Round 18: Ramat Hasharon – Maccabi Ashdod 77-75 
(25-14, 21-23, 15-23, 16-15)

Ramat Hasharon edged out Maccabi Ashdod 77-75 in what turned out to be the most exciting game of the weekend. The game was close all night and was decided in the last few minutes. Tamera Young had a double double in the loss for Ashdod with 16 points and 10 rebounds and her teammate Plenette Pierson had 26 points and seven rebounds. The loss knocks Ashdod out of first place and they will attempt to regain their position atop the standings when they take on Elitzur Holon in the next round.

Regular Season Round 16: Maccabi Ashdod - Elitzur Netanya 70-66 
(16-13, 15-21, 19-15, 20-17)

First place Maccabi Ashdod (12-3) used a second half charge to beat ninth place Elitzur Netanya (4-10), 70-66. Ashdod forced 21 turnovers to spark its comeback and took advantage of its opportunity at the free throw line shooting 80% for the game. Sky forward, Tamera Young was one of four Ashdod players to score in double figures with 14 points. Young also added 9 rebounds and her teammate, Brittany Denson had a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ashdod goes into its week off in first place and a week to practice before its next game.

Regular Season Round 15: Hap.Petah Tikva - Maccabi Ashdod
62-60

Tamera Young’s top ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-3) had its four-game winning streak snapped by sixth ranked Hap.Petah Tikva on Monday night, 62-60. Forward Kaili McLaren had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds. Forward Chastity Reed chipped in a double double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. For Ashod, Tamera Young recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds and Ashley Shields added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Hap.Petah Tikva remains in sixth place with 6-7 record. Maccabi Ashdod remains in first place despite the loss. Hap.Petah Tikva are looking forward to facing the league's second-placed team, Ramat Hasharon on the road in the next round and Maccabi Ashdod will play against Elitzur Netanya.

Regular Season Round 14: Maccabi Ashdod - Elitzur Ramla
75-74 (17-18, 17-11, 18-27, 23-18)

The most exciting game of round 14 in the D1 took place in Ashdod. This derby game ended with a only one-point defeat on the road of # 2 Elitzur Ramla (10-3) to # 1 Maccabi Ashdod (11-2) 75-74 in the game for the first place. Elitzur Ramla was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-18 charge of Maccabi Ashdod, which allowed them to win the game. Center Brittany Denson scored 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Sky’s Temera Young chipped in seven points and four rebounds. International Shay Doron with 25 points and five rebounds and American Chicago Sky’s Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton scored six points and grabbed five rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod has a solid four-game winning streak and they also snapped Elitzur Ramla the four-game winning streak and maintain first position with 11-2 record. Defending champion Elitzur Ramla keeps the second place with three games lost. Maccabi Ashdod are looking forward to face Hap.Petah Tikva (#6) on the road in the next round and Elitzur Ramla will play against Ramat Hasharon (#3).

Regular Season Round 13: Bnot Hasharon - Maccabi Ashdod
64-82 (17-19, 13-23, 20-18, 14-22)

D1 top team - Maccabi Ashdod (10-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat sixth ranked Bnot Hasharon (5-7) in Hertzeliya 82-64. Maccabi Ashdod dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Bnot Hasharon's 30. Maccabi Ashdod forced 24 Bnot Hasharon turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American players dominated also this game. Sky guard Tamera Young stepped up and scored 21 points and 4 steals for the winners and Ashley Shieldschipped in 17 points. Karima Christmas responded with 18 points, 16 rebounds and four assists and forward Kerri Gardin scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod has a solid series of threegame winning streak. They maintain first place with 10-2 record, which they share with Elitzur Ramla. Bnot Hasharon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will play against league's second-placed Elitzur Ramla at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bnot Hasharon will play against Ramat Hasharon (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Regular Season Round 12: Maccabi Ashdod - H.R. Le-Zion
84-70 (18-14, 28-19, 16-20, 22-15)

Maccabi Ashdod was in the hunt for the league leader position Monday, and they would not be denied as they defeated Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion 84-70 and took over first place. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion managed to win the third quarter 20-16, but it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Ashdod dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion's 34. Maccabi Ashdod forced 21 Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion turnovers. The best player for Maccabi was Ashley Shields who scored 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. Chicago Sky’s Tamera Young chipped in 10 points with four steals. Four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Alexis Gary-Lawson who recorded 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists and forward Brittany Spears added 17 points and six rebounds respectively. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion will play Ramat Hasharon in the next round and Maccabi Ashdod will try to stay on top of the leader board against Bnot Hasharon in Hertzeliya.

Tamera Young had a good game in her debute for Maccabi Ashdod (7-1) as she scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, however, Hapoel Tel-Aviv (2-7) took the victory 64-59. Maccabi Ashdod snapped their seven game winning streak and took their first loss of the season. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the half before their 35-28 charge in the second, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv forced 25 Maccabi Ashdod turnovers and 25 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Ashdod helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Guard Sherill Baker recorded 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Swingman Tanesha Washington contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Hapoel Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. Ashley Shields replied with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Plenette Pierson added 12 points and nine rebounds in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. Hapoel Tel-Aviv moved-up to ninth place and Maccabi Ashdod dropped to the second. Maccabi Ashdod will play B.C. Habikaa in the next round trying to make it back to the top of the standings.

Regular Season Round 10: Istanbul Univ. - Kayseri

Tamera Young’s Istanbul Universitesi (1-9) could not pull the victory at home as they lost to fourth-ranked Kayseri (7-3) 81-63 on Wednesday. Istanbul Universitesi was better in fourth quarter outscoring Kayseri 14-10, but it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kayseri had a 32-20 advantage on offensive rebounds and kept Istanbul Universitesi off the class all night. Center Nakia Sanford helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and four assists and Bahar Ozturk contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Charde Houston replied with 12 points and Young scored seven points with two steals in the effort for Istanbul Universitesi. Kayseri moved-up to third place in the standings, which they share with Ceyhan Bld. Istanbul Universitesi has lost sixth consecutive games and stays at the bottom of the rankings. Kayseri will face Antakya (#10) in Hatay in the next round and Istanbul Universitesi will play on the road against Courntey Vandersloot’s Besiktas in Istanbul.

Tamera Young’s Istanbul Universitesi (1-8) was edged out by Ceyhan Bld (6-3) Saturday night, losing 88-86 in the final minutes. Ceyhan Bld trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 24-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ceyhan Bld outrebounded Istanbul Universitesi 46-35 including 32 on the defensive glass. Istanbul Universitesi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Natasha Lacy who scored 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Ashley Paris chipped in a double double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds. Charde Houston recorded 23 points and nine rebounds and Chicago Sky’s Tamera Young added 14 points for Istanbul Universitesi. Ceyhan Bld moved-up to third place, which they share with Kayseri and Samsun. Istanbul Universitesi has lost its fifth consecutive game and have a share of last place. Ceyhan Bld will face Antakya (#9) in Hatay in the next round and Istanbul Universitesi will play at home against Kayseri.

Bottom-ranked Mersin managed to get their second consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they won against eleventh-ranked Istanbul Universitesi 75-68. After five consecutive loses Maersin was happy to have another victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes and won the first half. Istanbul Universitesi tried making a come back in the fourth won fourth, however, it was not enough to get a victory that evening. Mersin made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. Mersin outrebounded Istanbul Universitesi 39-24 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Shayonte Zellous who led the winners with a double double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Forward LaToya Thomas accounted for 13 points and five rebounds for the winning side. Guard Roneeka Hodges came up with 15 points and Sky guard Tamera Young added 13 points and six rebounds respectively for Istanbul Universitesi in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Istanbul Universitesi is currently on a three game losing streak. They dropped to the bottom position with the loss. Mersin will meet Antakya (#8) in the next round. Istanbul Universitesi will play against Galatasaray.

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Antakya (3-3) defeated on the road 11th ranked Istanbul Universitesi (1-5) 78-73. Istanbul Universitesi was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 28-21 charge of Antakya, which allowed them to win the game. The game was also dominated by American players. Center Jessica Moore notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and swingman Sheana Mosch supported her with 17 points. Four Antakya players scored in double figures. Antakya's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 21 points by guard Roneeka Hodges did not help to save the game for Istanbul Universitesi. Chicago Sky Guard Tamera Young added 18 points. Antakya moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Istanbul Universitesi at the other side dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Antakya's next round opponent will be Botas (#7) in Adana. Istanbul Universitesi will play on the road against Mersin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Ninth ranked Botas and 10th ranked Istanbul Universitesi had identical 1-3 record, but Istanbul Universitesi was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Adana 74-62 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Botas, however Istanbul Universitesi managed to win the fourth quarter 20-12. Center Courtney Paris had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International point guard Nilay Kartaltepe Yigit chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Botas players scored in double figures. Guard Roneeka Hodges produced 25 points and 7 rebounds and the Chicago Sky guard Tamera Young added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the Istanbul Universitesi. Botas (2-3) moved-up to seventh place, they share it with Erin Thorn’s Optimum TED and Antakya. Istanbul Universitesi keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Tamera Young’s Istanbul Universitesi upset Erin Thorn’s Optimum TED in Ankara 92-85 on Sunday night. Optimum TED was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Optimum TED was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Young who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import guard Roneeka Hodges contributed with 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Gulsah Akkaya replied with 28 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Demya Walker added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Optimum TED. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Istanbul Universitesi left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Optimum TED dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Istanbul Universitesi will face Botas (#9) in Adana in the next round.

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Istanbul Universitesi (0-3) was rolled over at home by sixth ranked Fenerbahce (2-1) 80-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Istanbul Universitesi was better in fourth quarter 25-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Istanbul Universitesi to just 2 points in first quarter. Fenerbahce made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Istanbul Universitesi 45-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Angel McCoughtry who scored 23 points and 9 rebounds. Australian forward Penny Taylor chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Fenerbahce's coach Georgios Dikaioulakos felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian center Aisha Mohammed who recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds and Chicago Sky guard Tamera Young added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Istanbul Universitesi still closes the standings with three games lost. Anything can happen between two tied teams. Both thirteenth ranked Tarsus Bld and bottom-ranked Istanbul University had identical 0-1 records coming into the game. This time Tarsus Bld used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Istanbul76-67. It looked good early as Istanbul University took a 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tarsus Bld had a 22-14 second period charge getting the lead and Istanbul University was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-76. Guard Jeanette Pohlen, who notched 21 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort, dominated the game and guard Andrea Riley supported her with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Roneeka Hodges scored 27 points for Istanbul University and Chicago Sky guard Tamera Young added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tarsus Bld (1-1) left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Istanbul University is in last. Tarsus Bld's next round opponent will be Antakya (#4) in Hatay. Tamera Young’s Istanbul University lost a though game to Samsun 70-53. Istanbul University was ahead by 2 points at the half before a 43-24 second half run for Samsun. Samsun outrebounded Istanbul University 33-22 including 21 on the defensive glass. Atlanta Dream guard CoCo Miller nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Chicago Sky forward Tamera Young came up with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Istanbul University will play on the road against Tarsus Bld Oct. 30.

Tamera Young this season will be playing in the Turkish D1 League for Istanbul University in Turkey.

Over the weekend Istanbul University participated in the pre-season Kayseri tournament. In the three game tournament Young played very well. Young averaged 21.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, and was named MVP of the tournament. Young’s first Turkish League game is on October 22, vs. Samsun.
