Streaking Sun Stop Sky

In Sylvia Fowles season debut the Sky’s offense was in perfect rhythm as they started the game with a dominating 13-2 run. Chicago used their size advantage, as Fowles scored nine points, including the first basket of the game, to help the Sky establish a 30-21 lead after the first quarter. The Sky’s 30 points in the first quarter was the most points scored by the Sky in any quarter this season.

After an explosive first quarter the Sky struggled offensively, scoring just 25 points in following two quarters combined. Alyssa Thomas helped the Sun shave a 12-point deficit to just two points and Chiney Ogwumike scored a layup with 2:16 remaining in the first half to help the Sun take their first lead of the game (37-36). Delle Donne responded scoring the final five points of the half to help Chicago regain a 45-39 lead heading into the half.

Coming out of the half, the Sun forced the Sky into a series of turnovers and mounted a 22- 2 run to give them a 14-point lead midway through the third quarter. The Sky scored just 10 points in the third quarter, the fewest scored in any quarter this season.

Connecticut’s commanding third quarter proved too much for the Sky to overcome as the Sun cruised to a 79-69 home victory. Alyssa Thomas led the Sun with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Katie Douglas chipped in 19 points to help the Sun continue on their hot steak. In her 2014 season debut, Fowles led the Sky with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Elena Delle Donne added 13 points in her first game back after missing five games due to a Lyme disease flare-up.

The Sky finishes a two-game Eastern Conference road trip with a game at New York on Friday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. CT. Watch the Sky take on the Liberty on The U Too and WNBA LiveAccess.
