South Elgin High School Named “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week”

The South Elgin Storm is currently 12-8 on the season and is looking to make it to postseason play for the fourth straight year. The team’s energy and drive to be the very best on the court is a direct result of their efforts off it.

Over the summer the team, made up of three seniors, five juniors and three sophomores volunteered their time at youth basketball camps as instructors and coaches, giving pointers and guidance to fifth through eighth grade girls. The team also staffed the concession stands, scorer’s table and assisted as needed throughout the camps when they were not coaching.

In December, in honor of breast cancer awareness, the team organized a “Pink Out” game against Bartlett High School on the December 15th. Each player wore pink-pre-wrap in their hair and pink shoelaces to show their support. The girls also sold t-shirts and raffle tickets to raise money for the cause which they donated to the Susan G, Komen Foundation.

As an “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week” award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2012 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court and will receive an award to recognize their accomplishments.

The Sky will recognize a new “High School Team of the Week” award winner every week until February 17, 2012. To nominate a team for the “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week,” click here. The Sky will accept nominations from parents, coaches, faculty members, and players.
