Shutting Down the Shock

The Sky will travel to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, June 20 to finish their regular season series against the Tulsa Shock. The Sky, coming off an 88-74 loss on the road to the Atlanta Dream, will look to capture their second win against Tulsa and “Three To See” rookie Skylar Diggins. The Sky took the first game at home, 92-71.

Sky rookie Elena Delle Donne continues to get better each week, setting new season scoring highs in each of the last two games. With her newest high of 25 points, she finds a solid second place ranking amongst the league in scoring behind veteran Diana Taurasi.

Along with Delle Donne’s shooting versatility on the court is reserve guard Allie Quigley’s domination past the arc. Quigley is finding her shooting groove as the season progresses. She sunk two 3-point shots in the second quarter against Dream. Quigley finished the game with 14 total points to tie her career high.

Sky will once again work to contain Diggins’ aggressive point guard style. Diggins, who is averaging 10.8 points-per-game and leading the team in assists (4.6 apg), recorded a season-high 22 points on June 16 against the Phoenix Mercury. Sky point guard Courtney Vandersloot, who is staying consistently strong this season averaging 8.3 points and 4.6 assists per game, is up for the challenge. She helped contained Diggins to just 8 points and 3 assists during the June 2 match up.

Delle Donne and Sylvia Fowles’ will rely on their height and aggressiveness to keep Shock forward Glory Johnson from scoring in the paint. During the June 2 match up, the pair helped contain Johnson to 15 points. Johnson has steadily improved during the weeks following, hitting a new career high in points (32) and regular season high in rebounds (15) against the Mercury on Sunday.
