This will be the second and final regular season matchup between these two teams and the final “3 To See” matchup for this season. This also marks the first time the WNBA’s top draft pick Brittney Griner will play at Allstate Arena. The Sky opened the 2013 WNBA season with a commanding 102-80 victory in Phoenix on May 27.

In the first contest, the Sky held the Mercury to just nine points in the first quarter and forced Brittney Griner to the bench with three fouls in the first eight minutes. The Sky put up a franchise record 39 points in the second quarter to take a 24-point lead into halftime.

The Sky maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half finishing with a season high 102 points. Elena Delle Donne finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, while her “Three to See” counterpart, Brittney Griner had 17 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Epiphanny Prince led the Sky with a season high 26 points. Veteran Diana Taurasi led Phoenix with 18 points and four assists.

Taurasi ranks second in the WNBA in both scoring (20.8) and assists (6.1) after 29 games. By her side is rookie Griner who leads the league in blocks per game (2.82 after 29 games). Likewise, the Sky is stacked with top players including Sylvia Fowles who leads the league in rebounds per game (11.4 after 30 games) and Delle Donne who sits first in free throw percentage (91.8%) and three point percentage (47.5%).

Despite the Mercury having the league leading blocker, the Sky have put up stronger defensive numbers. Chicago sits first in team blocks per game (6.57 after 30 games), while Phoenix sits fourth with 4.90 per game. The Sky also lead the league in rebounds per game (37.70). Offensively, however, the Mercury show their strength, outdoing the Sky in points and assists per game.

The Sky’s defense must be on point against this strong offensive squad. While the Sky will look to make key defensive stops against Mercury’s long list of dominant players, their own offensive pressure on Mercury’s defense will be the key to taking home a second win.

The Sky will host “Bulls Night” on September 11 as the Sky take on Mercury. The game will air on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. CT. Call 866-SKY-WNBA or visit www.chicagosky.net to order your tickets.
