Sky Re-Signs Cathy Joens

The Chicago Sky announced that the team has re-signed Cathy Joens (pronounced “Jones”). Joens played in the Sky’s first two regular season games and was waived by the Sky on May 23 to make room for Chasity Melvin on the roster, acquired by trade from Washington on May 24.

Prior to joining the Sky, Joens played overseas in Turkey, Spain and France. She was voted the French league’s Shooting Guard of the Year 2007, was named to league’s MVP Team, and was a finalist for Player of the Year. At George Washington University, Joens was twice named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year (2003, 2004) and was a Kodak All-American Finalist in 2003 and 2004.

“In bringing Joens back we gain a player who is a consistent shooter and gives us an outside presence beyond the three-point arc,” said Sky GM and Head Coach Bo Overton. “Since she was at training camp and played on the team earlier this season, she already knows our system and will blend in quickly. We’ve seen what she can do and we are looking forward to having her back on the team.”
