Sky players and fans cheer on Swin and Syl as they go for the gold
On Thursday afternoon, the Chicago Sky and ESPN Chicago invited their fans to Joe’s Bar to join them in cheering on Sylvia Fowles and Swin Cash as they and Team USA battled Australia for a spot in the gold medal game.
The many fans who packed Joe’s to watch the game and mingle with the team were thoroughly entertained by both a great game and by ESPN AM 1000 radio personality Jonathan Hood, who hosted the event. After the game, the crowd received a feisty pep talk from Sky head coach Pokey Chatman, who is very excited to get the second half of the season underway.
Sky season ticket holder Pat Mann was thrilled to attend Thursday’s event. “It was a great event,” she said. “I’ve always enjoyed all the great events the Sky have put together. We got to meet some of the players and talk to them.”
The players also enjoyed themselves. “This was a great way to watch an amazing game,” said Sky center Carolyn Swords. “It’s always nice to be able to connect with our very loyal fans.”
In the game, Team USA battled back from a halftime deficit to keep their 40 game Olympic win streak alive as they defeated Australia 86-73. Diana Taurasi and Tina Charles led Team USA with 14 points a piece while Fowles chipped in with four points and two rebounds. Team USA will play France in the gold medal game on Saturday, August 10 at 3 p.m. CT.
