The Sky has opened the 2012 season with a solid road victory over the Mystics 69-57 at the Verizon Center in Washington. What started as a 38-25 rout in the first half became a battle of wills in the second half. The Mystics cut the margin to three by the end of the third quarter on tough rebounding and physical defense before the Sky turned it on in the final quarter riding Sylvia Fowles (11 fourth quarter points) to pull away.

For the game Sylvia Fowles (23 points 12 rebounds) and Epiphanny Prince (16 points) picked up or where they left off last season, scoring at will against the overmatched Washington squad. Chicago has now won 7 in a row against its Eastern Conference rival.

Of the Sky’s new additions, Swin Cash was the most impressive; as she proved that she is not just a talent but one of the hardest workers on the floor in the game. In her Sky debut, she was all over the court scoring 14 points and grabbing 7 rebounds while playing very strong defense on the other end (1 block and 2 steals).

Crystal Langhorne led the Mystics with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Monique Currie chipped in 14.

The Sky (1-0) head back to Chicago to play their home opener on Friday, May 25 vs. the Indiana Fever, while the Mystics (0-1) will take on Tulsa in DC on May 26.
