Sky and Discover Celebrate Students

The Chicago Sky and Discover value education. That’s why they have teamed up to reward the three Chicago Public Schools (CPS) with the highest attendance record for the 2012-2013 school year. In acknowledgement of their hard work, these schools will receive tickets to any remaining Sky home game.

"Rewarding these deserving students with tickets to a Sky Game gives Discover an additional opportunity to support the partnership we have with the Chicago Public Schools. Congratulations to the students in all of these schools who demonstrated their commitment to education by attending each day," said Matt Towson, senior manager of Community Affairs for Discover.

John Charles Haines Elementary School had CPS’ highest attendance record with 98.48%. Edgar Allan Poe Elementary Classical School followed with a 97.78% attendance rate for the year, and James Ward Elementary School finished with an impressive 97.42% rate. The students at all three of the schools did an outstanding job this year!

Sky players always encourage youth to make education a priority. Sky guard Sharneé Zoll-Norman believes “education is everything.” She adds, “Sports are great, and they’re fun, but they’re also a privilege. Injuries happen every day to athletes. Having an education will help you succeed in life no matter what happens.”

A big congratulation goes out to these CPS schools for their hard work in the classroom and dedication to education.
