Sky Can't Catch Fever
Sylvia Fowles’ impressive performance wasn’t enough as the Sky fell 83-72 to Indiana on opening night at the Allstate Arena.
Reigning MVP Tamika Catchings scored a game-high 22 points pacing Indiana to its ninth win in its last ten matchups with the Sky. Catchings sealed the game with 3:16 left, putting the Fever up by 12 with a three-pointer.
Fowles and Epiphanny Prince kept the Sky close for most of the contest, but couldn’t close the gap in the fourth quarter. Fowles scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Prince chipped in 17 points including one of Chicago’s three makes from downtown.
Courtney Vandersloot cut the Fever lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but it was the closest Chicago would get as Catchings answered with a lay in to put Indiana back on top by four points with 6:48 left.
The Sky gave the ball away 24 times and the Fever took advantage, scoring 28 points off turnovers. Indiana outscored Chicago 25-18 in the final quarter, giving the Sky no room for a comeback.
The Sky now head to San Antonio 1-1 for a matchup with the 1-1 Silver Stars.
