When Shay comes off the bench, the opponents may not know where she will contribute, but she will always find a way. Shay is the type of player that can do it all. Whether she is draining threes, grabbing rebounds, picking up steals or driving to the basket, Shay is a potential game changing factor.

Shay’s season with the Sky began on July 25 after originally signing only a seven-day contract. Shay played in 10 games for the Sky, then was sidelined by a thumb injury that kept her out the rest of the season. However, before the injury, Shay’s speed and hustle on both sides of the ball impressed Head Coach Pokey Chatman enough to earn Shay meaningful minutes off the bench.

In her 10 games off the bench, Murphy contributed 9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, and at home Murphy averaged an impressive 12.2 points a game.

Murphy had multiple double-digit scoring games and eight games with five or more rebounds. Her best performance came on August 7 against the Indiana Fever. Murphy made 6-of-11 from the field and was 3-of-4 from three-point range, earning 21 points. In addition, she grabbed six rebounds, forced three steals and picked up an assist.

“It was great to get some open looks and take care of business on both ends of the floor,” Murphy said after beating Indiana. “As long as we concentrate, focus and play together one possession at a time, we will take care of it.”

This season, Shay really did take care of business. At times, Shay Murphy can be explosive offensively or she can be a defensive menace. Her contributions this year were significant and relevant in all aspects of the game. This was definitely a season to remember for Shay.
