Northwestern Clinic

On Sunday, February 11th, girls ages 8-18 came to the Welsh-Ryan Arena prior to the Northwestern vs. Penn State women's basketball game to participate in a fun-filled day of basketball activities and professional instruction as part of National Girls and Women in Sport Day.

The festivities included a clinic run by new Sky Head Coach Bo Overton and forward Amanda Lassiter. Northwestern women's Head Coach Beth Combs spoke to the group and encouraged all of the girls in attendance to continue participating in sports, as well as supporting the Sky and the Wildcats. In addition to Sky Coaches and staff, support and instruction was provided by members of the Northwestern Men’s basketball team.

All parents were invited to participate in the Sky's "Basketball 101” clinic. Basketball 101 is a session designed to teach parents the basics of the game, open up the lines of communication between parent and child about the sport and make the game more fun for parents while watching their child play. Christine Brennan, an award winning USA Today sports columnist, best-selling author and commentator for ABC News, ESPN, NPR, and Fox Sports Radio, addressed the parents in attendance, and discussed the importance of Title IX, the progress of women's sports, and the significance of girl's participation in sports as well as the potential career pathways available in sports.
