Mistie Bass: Vacation and Settling in Overseas
Hey Sky Fans,I hope this blog finds you happy, healthy and loving life! I've had quite a busy "off-season" already; however, I am enjoying it all to the fullest! After the season I took a much needed vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Before this trip, I had not heard much of this vacation spot! I can now inform all of you that I will never forget this place for as long as I live! My fiancé and I spent a week on white sandy beaches with the most pristine waters I have ever seen! The fact that I could go out into the ocean with the water up to my neck and still see the ocean floor and my toes clearly was amazing to me!
We took a couple of excursions during our stay that were so much fun! Of course I had to go snorkeling because with water that beautiful, it would be a waste not to spend a day looking for sea life on the reefs! It was at least a five hour tour and for the most part I felt like a little kid watching "Finding Nemo." I was pointing out all the specific characters of the movie ... ok so I’m a total dork, but I am a big kid at heart (I can't help myself)! I actually swam with stingrays and nurse sharks as well! I was completely frightened and mesmerized at the same time! These animals are so big and so beautiful; however, swimming in their territory is a little intimidating! Just goes to show just how fragile life can really be!!! Good thing that nurse sharks are not an aggressive species of shark! I actually got to touch a stingray and it felt like wet rubber, or a very firm Jello!
The second excursion was the zip-line tour! I absolutely had a blast! I had never done this before, but I'd definitely do it again! We went up into the high hills of the Dominican and zipped down about 15 lines! Some of the lines were pretty high, but the scenery was so beautiful! The only negative about that trip was the mosquitoes! YUCK!!!! Good thing I brought my OFF!!!
Vacation was very relaxing and helped me prepare for France! I currently am in Challes Les Eaux, France which is a small town in the south eastern part of the country! If you were driving through France you'd have to keep your eyes open, because if you blinked, you'd miss it! Even though it's small, the views here are spectacular! The town is in the midst of high hills, and behind the hills are the Alps mountains. There is nothing like waking up in the morning and stepping out on the balcony to see the sight! It’s not something you see everyday in the states (unless you live in Colorado).
Since I have been here, I have had to learn to drive a car with a manual transmission! Let's say it’s not on the top of my favorites list! It took me about a week before I finally decided I would try to drive! Then it took me another week to learn how to "NOT" stall! It’s not fun when you have stalled at a light and the line of cars behind you seems to get bigger by the second, right along with the sound of horns from irritated people! I actually got stuck on a hill for 30 minutes! Needless to say, I love an automatic car! I am getting around now pretty well, but I love my automatic car at home!
My team has been working very hard in practices and we are only two weeks away from the season opener! We have had some preseason games and currently stand at 3-1. We have only been together three weeks and most of my team is very young! It will be a learning experience this season, but one thing is certain...WE HAVE HEART! I love being on teams that fight! You don't always have to be the most talented in order to win games! As long as you have hard workers, fighters and pride, it will get a team far in a season! Keep up with us during the season here.
Thanks for reading Sky Fans! Keep up with me on Facebook!
