At Harrah's Casino today in Joliet, the Chicago Sky along with ESPN 1000, presented the winner of the first ever Miss She-Cago contest. Chicago Sky President Adam Fox and ESPN 1000 radio personalities Tom Waddle, Marc Silverman and Sarah Spain were on hand to judge Chicago's best female sports fan.

“This was all Marc Silverman’s brain child,” said former Chicago Bear Tom Waddle one of the hosts of ESPN 1000’s Waddle and Silvy Show. “He always wants to find a way to get more listeners and he was receiving some daunting e-mails from people that were saying, ‘Hey look, you have all these great events for guys, but you don’t recognize the female sports fans here in Chicago.’ Chicago has such a passionate fan base, women included, that that’s what inspired him to create this title of Miss She-Cago as the best and most complete female Chicago Sports fan, and it was just amazing to have the Sky involved.”

It came down to just four finalists: Karen Horting from Chicago, Payal Patel from Schaumburg, Kathy McCade from Chicago, and Nirali Shah from Chicago. Each contestant had to answer Chicago sports trivia questions and had a chance to go up and tell all the ESPN listeners and the judges why they deserved to be Miss She-Cago. At the end of the contest, the judges and over 3,000 Chicago sports fans voted to determine the winner.

When asked why they wanted to be Miss. She-Cago here is what some of the contestants had to say.

Pyal Patel told judges, “It would be the coolest to be the first ever Miss She-Cago. I went to Marquette University, in the heart of Packer land, and on Sundays during the Packer games I’d be decked out in Bears stuff. I am just really passionate about Chicago sports, even if it means getting a drink spilled on me at Marquette.”

Karen Horting said, “I would love to take this passion that I have had for most of life and turn it in to something to represent Chicago.” And when her husband (a big Minnesota Vikings fan) and her were on a trip together, the Bears lost to the Vikings, so she threw her husband and his luggage out of their hotel room and said “hang out with your other Viking friends.”

However, when all the votes where in, and the judges had talked it over, it was Katy McCabe who won the title of Miss She-Cago! “It feels so awesome, it just feels so awesome,” she said. “All the countless hours of watching sports has finally paid off. And I’ll probably watch even more sports now, including Sky games, now that I have an obligation to live up to my title. I am just really excited.”

Kathy received a pair of 2011 Chicago Sky season tickets and a trip for two to the 2012 ESPY's in Los Angeles!

“It was just a great time today” said Adam Fox, Chicago Sky President and Judge at the event. “Thanks to all the people that came out, the Casino was great, the folks at EPSN were fantastic. We met four really passionate contestants for Miss She-Cago and their stories were great, it was a tough choice, but it was a lot of fun.”
