Experience and leadership are not something that shows up on the stat sheet. Luckily for the Sky, these invaluable characteristics compliment Jia Perkins’ performance on the court.
Later in the season, Perkins proved Diana Taurasi and Sylvia Fowles weren’t the only stars in Phoenix. On August 1 Perkins recorded 23 points, 15 coming from a career-best five 3-point field goals. It seemed as though Perkins helped the Sky to leave the Sun-Devil state with a victory, however, after a questionable call sent Taurasi to the free throw line, the Sky was defeated.
Co-Captain Dominique Canty wasn’t the only captain climbing the record books this season. With her 363 points, Perkins surpassed the 2,000 point total for her career, putting her at No. 2 on the Sky’s all-time list.
Furthermore, she surpassed the 300 steal mark, 56 coming in 2010, cementing her grasp on the top spot in Sky history. Perkins again reminded Sky fans in 2010 of the versatility in her game. The reliable scorer, defender and rebounder will look to improve on all of this season’s numbers when 2011 rolls around.
