Guerin Prep Named High School Team of the Week

Congratulations to the Guerin Preparatory High School Varsity Girls’ Basketball team for being named the Chicago Sky’s inaugural 2011-2012 “High School Team of the Week” award winner presented by Action Floor Systems.

The Sky will recognize one high school varsity girls’ basketball team each week staring today, Tuesday, November 22, 2011, then every Wednesday, from November 30, 2011 to February 17, 2012 as part of its “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week” program. Winners are selected for succeeding on and off the basketball court, while striving to make a real difference in their schools and communities. Guerin Preparatory High School is a small school of about 500 students located in River Grove, however, these Lady Gators made up of four seniors, eight juniors and three sophomores are out to prove that they are something bigger. Kicking off their 2011-2012 season the Lady Gators played in the Argo Tournament this past week and won, going a perfect 3-0 to start the season.

Not only is this team determined to win on the court this season, they hope even more to win off it. “We can’t wait to help out our community,” said head coach John Gage. “This season we plan to help out at a hospital, with senior citizens and the handicapped to really show the kids that there is more to life than basketball.”

As a “High School Team of the Week” award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2012 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game they will also be honored on court and receive a plaque for their accomplishments.
