Sky forward Sylvia Fowles has been named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of July 8 - 14, the WNBA announced today. This is the first Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor for Fowles this season and the third consecutive time a Sky player has won the award.

Fowles led the Sky during their July 10 win against the Washington Mystics. Totaling 26 points, Fowles shot an impressive 70.6% from the floor and blocked three shots. She also took down 18 rebounds to accomplish her sixth double-double this season. Fowles’ individual offensive rebounds (10) trumped the Mystics’ offensive team rebound total (7).

In the Sky’s second win over the Connecticut Sun on July 12, Fowles added 14 points and eight rebounds to the boards. She shot 64% from the floor and blocked one shot. She completed the week with an average 20.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and two blocks.

This season Fowles is averaging 14.5 points, 11.8 rebounds and two blocks per game. She is a multi-week league leader in rebounds per game and is ranked second overall in blocks per game.

Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Atlanta’s Erika de Souza, Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne, Connecticut’s Tina Charles, Indiana’s Erlana Larkins and Washington’s Crystal Langhorne in the East, as well as Minnesota’s Lindsay Whalen and Tulsa’s Nicole Powell in the West.

Los Angeles’ Candace Parker was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
