Fowles Joins “Dwyane Wade and Brandon Marshall Sports Academy”

At the camp the three elite athletes provided on-court instruction and shared their stories to inspire, and educate the group of football and basketball players. The academy offered nearly 900 boys and girls in attendance the opportunity to run through drills, and get pointers, from Sylvia Fowles and Dwyane Wade on the basketball court and Brandon Marshall on the football field. Campers ranged in age from 8-18 years old and came from diverse backgrounds.

New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann was also on hand for the event to lead the three professional athletes through a series of crossover skills competitions. The Mayor’s challenge asked Fowles and Wade to catch football passes, while Marshall attempted three-point field goals. The celebrity skills exhibition concluded with Fowles, Marshall and Wade playing in a game of PIG for the campers. With the help of Mayor Baldermann the camp partners with the Boys and Girls Club to provide more than 100 scholarships annually to student athletes from the south side of Chicago.

The on-court instruction was supplemented by a student athlete study hall and film session led by Courtology Institute. During the classroom portion, attendees learned about the intangibles of becoming an elite athlete such as attitude, enthusiasm and work ethic. Instructors also talked about what it means to be a good teammate and the importance of being a student first, then an athlete.

The camp concluded with a pep rally and awards ceremony. Upon exiting all attendees received autographs from Fowles, Marshall and Wade as well as an opportunity to pose for photos with the three professional athletes.
