Fowles Named Player of the Week

The Chicago Sky’s Sylvia Fowles was named the league’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week presented by Kia Motors for her regular season games played at home against Connecticut July 1st and at Atlanta on July 3rd. This is the second player of the week award for the 6-6 center. Her previous win came during the first week of June where Fowles led the Sky to its first ever four game win streak.

The Sky have won four of its last five contests, and Fowles has been at the center of the action. In her last two games Fowles averaged 24 points and 11.5 rebounds, good for second in the league just behind Seattle center Lauren Jackson, who took home the award for the Western Conference.

A dominating effort in Chicago’s win over Connecticut included a 26-point performance from Fowles. Two nights later, Fowles poured in 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help drop Atlanta, the Eastern Conference leaders.

The WNBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week presented by Kia Motors are part of a series of on-court performance awards called "The WNBA Performance Awards Presented by Kia Motors." The series, currently in its second season, includes four of the WNBA's most prestigious year-end honors: Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, and Sixth Woman of the Year, along with the WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month. Kia Motors has been an official marketing partner of the WNBA since 2008.
