Dominique Canty: The Veteran
Dominique Canty completed her 13th season in the WNBA and her fifth with Chicago this year. Even though she lost the early part of the season to knee surgery, she fought back and finished averaging 4.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Her two assists per game place her fourth on the team, but her greatest asset is her wisdom. Canty has now played in 374 career games in the WNBA and with a team full of young stars the Sky really leverages Canty’s knowledge.
“Dominique is a valuable leader on the court to our younger, more inexperienced players,” stated Sky Head Coach Pokey Chatman after hearing the news that Canty had to miss three weeks due to knee surgery. “It is unfortunate we will lose her for a period of time.”
But Canty did return and helped split time between fellow guards Epiphanny Prince, Erin Thorn and Courtney Vandersloot. Her most impressive performance of the season came on September 10 in Los Angeles. Canty shot 5-of-9 from the field for 16 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Dominique is very close to a few milestones of her own. She only needs 17 more steals to reach the 144 mark to become second on the all-time steals list for the Sky. Also, she currently sits in the 12th spot on the all-time WNBA assists list.
Dominique Canty is a veteran leader for the Sky both on and off the court and should be congratulated on a great 13th season.
