Courtney’s Whirlwind Start!

Hey Sky fans! Wow….what a whirlwind few days I have had since arriving in Chicago, I have barely had a chance to catch my breath but I am so excited to finally be here. I arrived straight from Vegas where I had been in camp with Team USA and headed straight to Chicago, this is my first time here so I was a little nervous about being in a new city but so far I have not had a second to stop and be nervous.

I am happy that we have so many rookies and we can all share this experience together and I am so thankful I got the chance to attend the Team USA Camp as I was able to get to know Big Syl and Shameka which I think definitely calmed the nerves coming into Sky Training Camp.

After spending Friday getting unpacked and settling into my apartment we were up early Saturday for physicals and then finished the day with a team dinner at McCormick & Schmicks. It was good to finally meet everyone and I was so excited for the start of camp on Sunday morning that I could barely sleep.

Coach Chatman told us to expect a long session for our first practice of the year but even though we were on the court for nearly three hours it did not feel like that long. I loved every minute of it and really enjoyed playing with these girls and I am proud to report that mine and Piph’s team won every scrimmage for the entire session. We were able to check out our new practice facility and its going to be a pleasure to work out there every day.

So session number one was over and I was looking forward to resting and preparing for Monday’s sessions but then I got a text from Piph and before I could blink we were headed downtown to watch the Bulls play the Heat in the opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals. It was awesome and I have to give a big shout out to Taj Gibson for inviting us to the game. It was the first time I had been to the United Center and even though I grew up as a season ticket holder to the old Seattle Supersonics I had never experienced the atmosphere that we experienced in the United Center for that game. The Bulls fans were so passionate and it was so loud in there. I also got to meet Craig Sager – I always take note of the crazy suits that he wears on TV so as soon as we saw him Piph and I insisted that we get a photo!

So its back to practice today and I hope I can keep our undefeated streak alive, I am also looking forward to my very first Chicago Sky Media Day on Tuesday and hopefully on my next day off I can check out the downtown area – the skyline looked amazing as I was driving down to the United Center and I cant wait to visit Michigan Avenue, see the lake and maybe even head up to the Hancock Building or Sears (Willis) Tower. I will let you all know once I undertake that adventure!
