Chicago Sky Signs Christi Thomas

Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key announced today that the Chicago Sky has signed 6-4 free agent forward/center Christi Thomas.

Thomas will join the Sky at practice on Friday, July 8 and will be available for the Sky’s first game after the All-Star break on Sunday, July 11 when the Sky takes on the New York Liberty at New York.

“With Christi Thomas we will add depth and size to our front court plus invaluable WNBA experience to our team,” said Key.

Thomas, a six-year WNBA veteran out of the University of Georgia, was drafted 12th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2004 WNBA draft. She played on the Sparks until 2008 when she was acquired by Minnesota in a trade for Vanessa Hayden-Johnson in 2009. Thomas was waived by Minnesota after playing in 11 games on July 17, 2009. In 2010, Thomas went to training camp with the Tulsa Shock but did not make the team.

With Los Angeles, Thomas played a contributing role in three different playoff runs in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She has averaged 25 minutes per game in 10 career playoff games. In 2007 Thomas, originally from Buford, GA, started 19 of the 34 games she played in and averaged a career-high 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds. For her career she has averaged 5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
