Carl Sandburg High School Named 'Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week’

With a record of 16-13 and games against some of the biggest teams in the state, the Carl Sandburg Eagles have fought hard to have a successful season. Their biggest win (47-27) came against their district rival, Stagg, who had a 19-5 record. The team is led by floor leader and junior point guard, Carly Katalinic, junior guard Ashley Youngwirth, and three year starting varsity senior forward, Kristen Bailey. Not only does Bailey average 8.5 points and 7 rebounds per game on the court, she also ranks 2nd academically in her class of 800 students. Head Coach Chris Hellrung couldn’t be any more proud of his team. “My best advice for student athletes is to always give your best effort, whether it be during games, practice, or in the classroom. High school is going to fly by, you never want to wonder ‘What if?’.”

The Eagles are a very close knit team and spend as much time together off the court as they do on. The team gives back to the Orland Park community through a variety of different ways, including running a summer basketball camp for girls in grades 5th-8th.

As an “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week” award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2012 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court and will receive an award to recognize their accomplishments.

The Sky will recognize a new “High School Team of the Week” award winner every week until February 22, 2012. To nominate a team for the “Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week,” click here. The Sky will accept nominations from parents, coaches, faculty members, and players.
