Dupree and Kosice Just Miss Advancing
Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles dominated Spartak’s quarterfinal series sweep over Fenerbahce and was named FIBA EuroLeague Women Player of the Week.
Fowles recorded back-to-back double-doubles with a monster game in the series clincher scoring 26 points to go along with 19 rebounds in 43 minutes, all season highs.
“I would like to congratulate my players … and Sylvia who is getting to be the top center in women’s basketball,” Spartak head coach Pokey Chatman told FIBAEurope.com after the first game of the series.
Spartak is now in the final four of the EuroLeague tournament along with Ros Casares and UMMC Ekaterinburg.
Sky forward Candice Dupree was fourth in player of the week standings and recorded double-doubles in each of Kosice’s two playoff games. Unfortunately, the Good Angels were not up to the task as they were swept by Ekaterinburg.
In game one Dupree had 13 points and 14 rebounds. In the second game she led Kosice with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Dupree will start in the EuroLeague All-Star game on March 9 in Gydnia, Poland. For the season she has averaged 18.9 points (3rd in EuroLeague and 11 rebounds (1st in EuroLeague).
