Sky Selects Carla Thomas 10th overall

The Sky selected 6’3” forward/center Carla Thomas from Vanderbilt University with the tenth overall pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft.

Over her four-year career at Vandy, Thomas was a standout player in the SEC. She was named AP All SEC Honorable Mention (2006), AP/Coaches All-SEC Second Team (2005), SEC All-Freshmen Team (204), All-SEC Third Team (2004), and was the first freshman since Mississippi State All-American LaToya Thomas to be selected as the SEC Tournament’s MVP (2004) by averaging an astounding 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the tournament’s four games.

Thomas averaged 13.6 points per and 6 rebounds per game in her college career. She had her best season as a senior, scoring over 16 points per game on her way to leading the Commodores to a number two seed in the NCCA Tournament.

During her junior year, Thomas became only the 11th Vanderbilt player to reach 1,000 points before reaching their senior season. She scored in double digits in 23 of her 30 games.
