Sky Re-Signs Veteran Guard Perkins

Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Bo Overton has announced that the team has re-signed veteran guard Jia Perkins to a three-year contract.

We are thrilled that she will remain in the lineup, said Overton. In her two seasons with the Sky, she has emerged as a team leader on and off the court, and we look forward to the ways her game will develop in the years ahead.

Im excited to stay in Chicago, said Perkins. Its been my home for the past two seasons and I look forward to spending the next few years with Sky teammates, staff, and fans. And I want to continue to help build a great team and bring a WNBA Championship to Chicago.

Perkins, a four-year veteran of the WNBA, was selected by the Sky in the 2006 WNBA Expansion Draft. In 2007, Perkins averaged 11.7 points, 2.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. It was a standout season as she set multiple franchise and career records, including scoring a franchise and career-high 39 points in a win over Sacramento on June 29. It was the second highest single game point total in the WNBA in the 2007 season. In the same game, she sank five 3-pointers (franchise and ties career high), had 10 assists (career high and ties franchise high), and made 24 free throw attempts (career high). She was a finalist for the WNBAs Sixth Woman of the Year award in 2007 and is currently ranked fourth in the WNBA in 3-point percentage (.459), 10th in the league in steals (50) and 16th in field goal percentage (.464).

Perkins is currently playing for Ramat Hasharon in Israel with Sky teammate Chasity Melvin.
