Sky Picks Local Talent

The Sky selected 5’5” guard Stephanie Raymond from Northern Illinois with the seventh pick in the second round of the 2007 WNBA Draft (20th overall).

Raymond was named to the All-Mid American Conference Third Team (2005) and to the Mid-American Conference All- Freshmen Team (2004). She ranks third all-time at NIU in three-pointers made with 133, and ranks seventh in school history with 212 career steals. As a junior, Raymond tallied ten 20-point games and scored double digits in 25 of 28 games.

Born in Rockford, Illinois, Raymond finished 13th in Ms. Basketball voting and was named to the first team Class A All-State team. She graduated from Rockford Lutheran, and is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,113 points.

The Sky also selected 6’0” guard Jenna Rubino from DePaul University with the first pick in the third round of the 2007 WNBA Draft (27th overall).

She earned All-Big East Second Team honors (2006) as she averaged 12.3 points per game for the Blue Demons. She was also named the MVP of the 2005-2006 DePaul Invitational.

Rubino played in 95 career games for DePaul, scoring in double-figures 45 times. She is the fifth fastest to 100 three pointers in school history.

Rubino grew up in Mokena, Illinois and attended Lincoln-Way East High School. While at Lincoln-Way, Rubino set 15 school records, and holds career, season and game records in scoring, three-point field goals, steals, blocks and free throws. She was named to the second team All-State team.
