On the Road with the Sky - July 12 @ Indiana, July 16 @ Detroit and July 20 @ Connecticut
Hey Sky fans!! Sorry for the delay, but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve included, Indiana, Detroit and Connecticut road trips on this one blog and in the same video. The main reason being is that there just really wasn’t much going on during these trips. They were all three extremely quick and over before I knew it. Enjoy!!!
INDIANA
Friday July 11, 2008
We have a few road trips coming up, and when I say road trips I mean we are getting there old school style, on the bus. First road trip is today, we head out to Indiana to take on the Fever. Now some may think, wow, you are heading all the way to Indianapolis on a bus!!! Well fans, don’t get me wrong it definitely has its moments but for the most part, we just sit back and watch movies the whole way … that or just goof off. You see the difference between being on the bus and on the plane, is that the whole bus belongs to us only. So we can get as loud as we want, watch whatever movies we want, and stop when we need to.
Alright so we are loaded on the bus and ready to head out. You might be wondering what we are going to eat on the road. Nope Coach Key doesn’t make us all sandwich lunches, although that would be hilarious. Truth be told, most of the team heads out to grab something to eat after practice and eats it on the bus. The number one destination……Popeye’s Fried Chicken on Western.
We also had a special guest this trip. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this earlier, but our team is extremely family oriented. This road trip we had the whole Key family, including the newest addition Sidney, along with Assistant Coach Michael Mitchell’s two kids, Mica and Donovan. So of course a little baby on the bus is like the team’s latest toy. They were snapping away photos and passing her around like she was a basketball. The one player who became extremely attached to Sid was Ms Candice Dupree, as you can see from the footage. Also you can see Armintie took a stab at babysitting, and well didn’t do too well. I’ve never seen a baby handed over to its parents so fast.

We knew we were facing a tough team tonight, so everyone was focused at shootaround. Then we headed back to the hotel, which is a bit dangerous since we stay in a hotel that is connected to the mall. After some shopping most of the team took their naps and got ready for the game. Not too much going on in Indiana.
I stuck around at the mall for awhile, Candice mentioned she was going to get her eyebrows threaded for the first time, and well I had to watch this. If you don’t know what it is, threading is a process of sculpting eyebrows, minus any wax. It’s actually a genius invention. Can didn’t think it was the best idea after it was all said and done, apparently it was too painful, but hey at least her eyebrows looked fly!!!
Game time. The team started off strong, but Indiana was just too much for the Sky tonight as they pulled away with the victory. We loaded the bus one more time to head back to Chicago after the game. Before we loaded the bus, we had a special chef. Although Syl traveled with the team she was still inactive, so she did the best she could to make sure the team knew she was behind them and made them their plates of food for the bus ride home.
DETROIT

Our second road trip in a week, and this one is much longer than the trip to Indiana. There really isn’t much else to say except it was a really really REALLY long road trip. When we finally made it to Detroit we all had a little cabin fever from being on the bus so long!! To top it off, where we stay in Auburn Hills there isn’t much to do, so most of the team headed to Quizno’s or Burger King to grab a quick bite to eat before calling it a night.

It’s a daytime game, and I cannot tell you how many kids were in The Palace. It was so incredibly loud. Imagine an arena filled with little kids screaming at the top of your lungs, and cheering for the other team. Definitely wasn’t an easy place to play, but we came back from a 20 plus deficit. The game was ours for the taking. Unfortunately Detroit stepped it up a notch and got the “W.”
After the game we packed it up and loaded the bus one more time for the long trip back to Chicago. As you can see from the footage it was a really really REALLY long trip!!

The team had practice this morning before heading to the airport. We were going to Connecticut for the first time this season. Visiting the Mohegan Sun Casino is always fun, so we were excited to head to Connecticut and see what was new.
As soon as we landed we headed to the local Bar-B-Que restaurant for dinner. The food was great, so great that Cathy Joens ate the rest of the food on my plate. I’m telling you guys, these ladies should join an eating contest. It seems all they do is eat. Food is almost always the solution. If they are grumpy -- feed them. If I need them to wake up extra early and do an appearance -- get them breakfast. Food just works everytime!!!

It’s another daytime game. I was able to capture some footage of Syl working out on the road for the first time. Although she wasn’t playing today, it was great to seeing her on the court going through drills with Coach Mitchell.
After her workout I was able to catch a few moments of silliness with Syl and Tye’sha Fluker in the locker room. Plus K.B. gave us an update on her injury. The game was close the whole time through, but the Sky couldn’t overcome the Sun. Because the game was so early, we flew back after the game.
Unfortunately our flight was delayed because of weather and first we had to sit in the airport – and the air conditioner wasn’t working, it was so hot. Then we finally boarded the plane and sat on the plane for about 2 hours. I believe we finally arrived in Chicago around 1AM. Just wasn’t a good day for the Sky at all.
