High School Team of the Week January 8, 2008- Wheaton Warrenville South

The Chicago Sky has selected the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers girls varsity basketball team as the fourth “High School Team of the Week.” The Tigers have developed an unyielding bond that continues off the court and provides support in ways that truly define the word team.

The Tigers experienced tragedy up-close on November 19 when a player’s mother died in a car accident. The loss effected players and coaches and has been the catalyst for pulling the team closer. On the court, the Tigers are currently 9-5, boasting a 4-1 record in league play. Off the court, the players have rallied for their teammate, giving her comforting mementos and donating gift cards and dinners. The leadership of the team’s upperclassmen and the support of the whole girls basketball program has been a source of pride for the community. The Tigers were nominated by their coach, who said, “I have never been more proud of a team. This has been a life lesson that they’ve experienced through the support of a team.”

The Sky wishes the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers the best of luck and congratulates them for their courage and for making the word team so much more meaningful than their play on a basketball court.
