High School Team of the Week January 22, 2008- North Boone

The Sky congratulates the North Boone High School girls varsity basketball team as its sixth “High School Team of the Week.” The Vikings have taken the teamwork and selflessness they practice on the court into their community.

The Vikings are currently 10-11, with a 4-4 record in conference play. While dealing with the demands of being student-athletes, the Vikings still find time to help serve their community. When a local family became temporarily homeless just before Christmas, the girls decided to pool their money together, and challenged the boys’ team to do the same. The teams together purchased over $300 in gifts for the children to open on Christmas morning.

Then, on January 7, 2008, a tornado ripped through the North Boone community, just south of the high school. With three games coming up, the girls still found time to help. On January 12, the players participated in a community clean-up that started at 8 a.m., and played a game that evening against Marengo High School. Coach Ed Mulholland nominated his team, saying, “I am not sure I have ever been more proud of a group of girls in my time coaching.”

The Sky wishes the North Boone High School Vikings much success as they finish up the regular season and thanks them for their willingness to spend time serving their community.
