Ariel Investments Basketball Clinic

The Chicago Sky teamed up with Ariel Investments recently to put on a basketball clinic for teenage girls at the Upper Kovler Gymnasium at the University of Chicago Laboratory School. The Ariel Investment clinic provides girls with a structural basketball learning experience that encourages teamwork, a commitment to the game and personal development.

The clinic hosted seventh and eighth graders and their coaches from Ariel Community Academy as well as high school students from the University of Chicago Laboratory School. The clinic focused on improving players’ skill while emphasizing offense, defense, shooting and game fundamentals.

Sylvia Fowles, Elena Delle Donne, and Assistant Coach Christie Sides led the girls through a variety of basketball drills including ball-handling, shooting and footwork. Following a set a drills, the students had the opportunity to play 3-on-3 before ending with a full court 5-on-5 game coached by the Sky players and staff.

“Having Elena, Sylvia and Christie work with our kids was an extraordinary experience”, said Tai Duncan, Director & Corporate Liaison for Ariel Investments. “Not only do they have an exceptional level of skill and understanding of the game, but they were also incredibly kind and patient with our students. It is rare for young women to have the opportunity to learn from elite athletes and coaches in this type of intimate setting. This clinic is one of the many reasons we are excited to have such a great partnership with the Sky.”

The students enjoyed a pizza party at the conclusion of the clinic followed by a Q&A and autograph session with Fowles and Delle Donne.
