Week 3: Lake Zurich named High School Team of the Week

The Lake Zurich Lady Bears have just started a very competitive conference season and are looking to improve upon last year’s record of 21-10.

This season, the team has adapted a new theme, RISE, and they work every practice, game and service project into this theme. RISE stands for Relentless, Intensity, Sacrifice and Enthusiasm and these are the traits that each team member strives to achieve throughout the basketball season and beyond.

In addition to basketball and academics the team regularly hosts fundraisers for local charities such as “Throwback Night” which will take place February 8th. They also donate time and money to multiple causes affecting not only their community but also those farther away.

On Saturday January 26, Lake Zurich High School will host a Special Olympics basketball tournament for more than 30 Northeastern Illinois teams. The Lady Bears will be staffing the tournament and assisting with anything the organization and athletes need.

This team continues to grow and improve each year and is hoping to make a permanent difference for future athletes and students at their school and in their communities.

As a Chicago Sky “High School Team of the Week” award winner, Lake Zurich High School is invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court.

All teams that compete in IHSA 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome and should be completed on the Chicago Sky website (www.chicagosky.net) through March 12.

At the end of the 10-week program each weekly winning team will be entered to win the “High School Team of the Year” award for 2014. The winner, determined through online voting, will be announced at halftime at a 2014 Chicago Sky game.
