Delle Donne Player of Week

On May 16th, Delle Donne scored 23 points to help the Sky defeat Eastern Conference rival Indiana Fever. Her 16 points in the second half helped the Sky overcome a 10-point halftime deficit to win their home opener.

It was a quick turnaround as the Sky made a trip to Madison Square Garden on May 17th to face the Liberty in the team’s first game back at MSG since 2011. In her first appearance at The Garden, Delle Donne contributed another 23-point performance in 36 minutes.

The Sky returned to Allstate Arena later in the week to face the Connecticut Sun led by Chiney Ogwumike, the first overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft. Delle Donne dropped 27 points on 8-of-15 from the field as the Sky cruised to an 87-73 victory.

Against the Atlanta Dream on May 24th Delle Donne blocked four shots and was a major reason why the Sky’s defense only surrendered 68 points. She also contributed her fourth 20+-point performance as she posted 21 points as the Sky moved to 4-0, the best start in franchise history.

For the season, Delle Donne is also shooting 93.8 percent from the free throw line. She currently leads the WNBA in free throw shooting percentage, right on pace with her league-leading 92.9 percent last season.

Delle Donne’s WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor is the fifth of her career. She also won WNBA Rookie of the Month four times last year making her a unanimous selection as 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Minnesota’s Maya Moore received Player of the Week honors for the Western Conference.
