Delle Donne Honored

Delle Donne accepted the award at LRA’s annual “Time for Lyme” Gala. Upon accepting the award, she took the podium and spoke about her struggles with Lyme Disease and the importance of raising awareness. According to LRA, more than 300,000 people are diagnosed every year with Lyme Disease.

The WNBA Rookie of the Year first contracted Lyme Disease in 2008. On many occasions Delle Donne experienced extreme fatigue and severe migraine-like headaches. At the University of Delaware she was sidelined twice by Lyme Disease.

Staying healthy continues to be a daily battle for Delle Donne. The Chicago Sky training staff has developed a routine of vitamins, massages, and IV treatments to help Delle Donne stay in peak health. As she raises awareness of the disease, Delle Donne hopes to educate people on the emotional, physical, and financial toll it takes on families.

Lyme Research Alliance is a Connecticut-based, national non-profit that funds cutting-edge research into Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Its “Time for Lyme” Gala is LRA’s largest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds from the event will be used to fund important research projects at universities and major medical institutions throughout the United States.
