Today was somebody’s birthday; somebody really special. I’ll give you some hints. He’s tall, hairy, and wears a really big top hat. Do you know who I’m talking about? In my mind, he’s had a profound effect on Americans for decades. Any idea yet? The Cat in the Hat; that’s right this fantastic feline has turned 50 years old. In case you were thinking of Abraham Lincoln, his birthday was February 12th. Anyway, in celebration of the Cat’s birthday, the National Education Association organized a National Read-Aloud of Dr. Seuss’s immortal children’s book “The Cat in the Hat.” Sky forward, Amanda Lassiter and I went to the Build a Bear Workshop at Navy Pier to join in the fun. Amanda read “The Cat in the Hat” to a group of happy children and I had the important job of turning the pages (I’m really good at that, among other things). We even had a surprise visit by the one and only Cat in the Hat. He’s looking amazing for being 50 (that’s like 350 in cat years). |
