Today was a nice sunny day, too nice of a day for me to stay inside so I decided to take a walk around downtown. I decided to take a walk along State Street (you know, that great street). I headed south toward the Loop. After I crossed the river I started to hear the sounds of a marching band. There weren’t any parades that day so I felt that I needed to further investigate that wonderful music down the street. I walked all the way to the corner of State and Jackson and sure enough I found a marching band; but that’s not all I found. There were tons of people crowded around something I didn’t think I’d ever see (and I’ve seen a lot). It was the World’s Largest Rubber Band Ball. This rubbery mass stood 5 ½ feet high and 19 feet around, and weighed in at 4,594 pounds. This giant ball was made with more than 175,000 rubber bands and took close to a year to make. Apparently, there was an official from the Guinness Book of World Records to view this mammoth rubber band ball. I was so proud of the ball for setting a new world record that I jumped on it and gave it a huge hug. |
