How do I even begin? Today I was all over town. I started my morning with a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry to help volunteers with their training for this year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I gave directions to everyone from the parking lot to the building. It was pretty early in the morning so I needed to wake everyone up before they started their day of volunteer training. There was only one thing I could do; give everyone a hug and high five. I even got to help the volunteers with a giant nutcracker parade balloon. It’s kind of like flying a kite, only a lot bigger and full of air.
While I was at the museum some volunteers were talking about a huge football game up north. Apparently the Northwestern University Wildcats and the Ohio State University Buckeyes were playing in Evanston that afternoon. I knew with a game as big as that there was going to be some fantastic tailgating going on up there that I couldn’t miss out on. I was there in time to catch a sea of Wildcat and Buckeye fans in the parking lots all around campus and in front of Ryan Field. There were tons of die-hard fans supporting both schools and I had a blast meeting them. I’ve never seen so many interesting masks, crazy hats, and painted faces in one place.
I was having such a great time at tailgating that I almost forgot that I needed to be in Skokie for a birthday party at Lifetime Fitness by 4:30 pm. This party was huge! The birthday boy had like 30 of his friends there! Even Sky forward, Brooke Wykoff, was there to join in on the fun. We played a couple of games of knock-out and with that many kids on the court it was crazy. After we were all knocked-out Brooke and I split the kids into two teams for a full court game of 7-on-7 basketball. I gathered my team around and discussed our team strategy (that was an interesting game of charades) but we had difficulty communicating. I guess they don’t learn how to speak mascot in schools now-a-days (what a shame). Regardless of my bad coaching, we gave Brooke’s team a run for their money. When the game was over it was time for pizza, punch and cupcakes. This was the coolest birthday party I’ve ever been to… Mom can I have one like this for my birthday? |
