The Sky were in full force at the Harrison & Halsted aid station on Sunday morning for the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. All the Sky staff, interns, and me were out there to support the over 40,000 marathon participants. I saw the lead pack of runners and thought that I might have the speed to keep up with them. I started chasing after them and was running at close to a deep sprint in order to keep up with these amazing athletes. I’m sure I could have kept up with them but then I would miss out on all the other racers. I found a great spot in the middle of Halsted St. and then proceeded to hand out the most high fives in the history of high five disruption. I was giving runners high fives at a rate of 3 high fives per second. It was pure hand slapping insanity. Then all of a sudden one of the racers asked me to join in the race. Not one to disappoint a request, I was in the thick of the race in less than a second. I figured that I’d finish the race, but then I noticed that I had a shoe malfunction (my shoelace was untied) so I had to pull to the side to fix the problem. Once my shoelaces were under control I noticed an empty chair that was looking a little cold and lonely. So I had no choice but sit down in the chair and warm it up. After all the running and high fiving (that’s a word I just created) I’ve decided that running is almost as fun as flying. I think next year I might enter the marathon. Who’s going to join me? |
