Part of what appealed to me so much about this job was the opportunity to be a General Manager as well as the Head Coach. Although the coach is in a highly visible position, what goes on behind the scenes is a huge operation and I am enjoying learning about it and getting involved as we all work hard to put together this team.
One of the most important things going on now is ticket sales. After selling only season tickets for many months, we have recently begun selling partial plans and groups.
Our Sky Account Executives are working really hard making phone calls and getting out into the community to make sure the stadium is filled and rockin’ for every game! I want to have some say in getting the noisiest and most enthusiastic fans up close and personnel near the benches so we can give new meaning to home-court-advantage!!
I have had the pleasure recently of being out with them getting to meet the public and help in the ticket sales effort. We had a great luncheon last week at the law firm of Arnstein and Lehr (hosted by season ticket holder Cynde Munzer) where I got to meet some amazing people. One of the charms of Chicago is the fact that so many of the people here have lived here their whole lives and feel truly invested in making this one of the world’s great cities.
The week after that event, we hosted an Open House at UIC where prospective season ticket holders got a chance to see what a great venue the Pavilion is and even got to pick out their own seat! (If you think that sounds like fun, we’re having another Open House on March 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. with all the popcorn and hot dogs you can eat). And we have another event this Friday night in the northern suburbs and several scheduled in April.
Discretion being the better part of valor, it’s probably a good thing they don’t have me smiling and dialing, but I do enjoy the opportunity to get the word out about the Sky. I am trying to be a 6’9” billboard though, wearing new Sky shirts and jackets; I get a lot of smiles from people as I walk to work every day.
