I will be back to Boston for a while this spring as the WNBA has announced that the 2006 College Draft will be held in Boston on Wednesday, April 5; the pre-Draft Camp is scheduled for April 3. In between will be the Women’s NCAA Final Four on April 2 and 4 at the TD Banknorth Garden all of which should make for quite a week of women’s basketball.
It’s great to see one of my favorite cities, which has always been a hub for men’s basketball, now be at the center of women’s hoops.
Leading up to those dates, I will be watching as many college games as possible; either in person or on tape. Assistant Coach Steve Key also is hard at work watching tape. If you see us at some local games, be sure to come by and say hello. The Sky has the sixth pick in each of the three rounds.
The WNBA Pre-Draft Camp will offer coaches and general managers an
opportunity to evaluate the skills of approximately 40 top prospects from
the current collegiate senior class. The players will participate in
on-court sessions scheduled for the morning, afternoon and evening of April
3.
For those of you who want to follow the draft action on the 5th, ESPN2 will provide first round coverage of the Draft with continued coverage of the second and third rounds on ESPNU and NBA TV. In addition, WNBA.com will provide analysis and coverage throughout all three rounds. So, as they say, check your local listings.
This year’s draft class is headed by LSU forward and 2005 consensus NCAA
player of the year Seimone Augustus. Other top players expected to be selected are Baylor forward Sophia Young, Duke guard/forward Monique Currie and Chicago native and Rutgers guard Cappie Pondexter.
