Sophia Young’s jersey during halftime of Sunday’s game between the Lady Bears and Stanford.
The most highly decorated player in Baylor women’s basketball history, Young was a two-time consensus All-American for the Lady Bears. She earned Most Outstanding Player honors during the 2005 Final Four after guiding Baylor to its first National Championship. The 2006 Big 12 Player of the Year, Young finished her collegiate career as the top all-time scorer in Big 12 history (2,480 career points). She averaged 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game at Baylor and was the only active player named to the Big 12 10th Anniversary Team in 2006.
The San Antonio Silver Stars drafted Young fourth overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft. A two-time WNBA all-star, Young earned first team All-WNBA and All-Defensive team honors following the 2008 season after helping the San Antonio squad to its best record in franchise history and a Western Conference title.
