What’s Up With the Silver Stars?

Sophia Young, Vickie Johnson and Chantelle Anderson tipped off the overseas season with their first Turkish League game over the weekend. The trio is playing for Galatasaray in Istanbul. The squad claimed an 85-76 win over Cankaya Universitesi behind 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists from Sophia. VJ chipped in nine points, six rebounds and seven assists. Chantelle has not played yet, taking her return to the court slowly after last year’s injuries.

On Wednesday, Sophia and VJ helped guide Galatasaray to a 75-63 win over Elitzur Ramla in the duo’s first Eurocup game earlier today. VJ had 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Sophia chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Meanwhile, overseas roommates Sophia and Chantelle recently settled into a new three-bedroom apartment along with Sophia’s Chihuahua Kade and Chantelle’s Maltese Caj. The new pad’s best feature? It’s across the street from the mall. Look for a new overseas blog from them in November.

Kendra Wecker joined touring exhibition team DT3 Wednesday for a game against the Cal Bears. Kendra led the squad with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. She also played a team-high 39 minutes in the contest. The travel squad lost the contest, but headed East after the game where the team faced 10th-ranked Georgia Thursday night with nine points from Kendra. Following the Georgia game, Kendra hopped a plane to Washington, D.C., where she played in an exhibition contest against No. 14 George Washington. Kendra led the visiting squad with 13 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Becky Hammon helped CSKA Moscow to a 4-1 record and a first place finish in the FIBA World League Tournament in October. She averaged 9.2 points and 4.2 assists per game during the tournament. Over the weekend, her squad rolled over Baltiyskaia Zvezda, 120-66. Becky had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in the winning effort. She played her first EuroLeague game today with CKSA Moscow rolling to an 82-56 victory over TTT Riga behind 11 points, one rebound and three assists from Becky.

Sandora Irvin’s TCU Horned Frogs opened up their season Thursday night with a preseason exhibition win, 78-47, over the All-Stars. Good luck this season Coach Irvin and go Frogs!

Marie Ferdinand-Harris has been in Miami since the season ended running her new bakery, Sakap Fet. The North Miami bakery is doing well in its first year. But Marie says it’s really hard work.

Helen Darling and her triplets Jalen, JaJuan and Nevaeh had a "Super" Halloween.
