Silver Stars Re-Sign Johnson And Add Nygaard

The San Antonio Silver Stars of the WNBA announced today that they have re-signed LaTonya Johnson. At the same time the Silver Stars have come to terms with Vanessa Nygaard. Per team policy terms of the deals have not been released.

Johnson, a six-year WNBA veteran, has played her entire career with the Silver Stars. Last season she appeared in 31 games, averaging 1.9 points in 9.0 minutes per game. For her career she has played in 173 games, averaging 3.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game. She is currently playing for the Chicago Blaze in the NWBL alongside Silver Stars teammate Jamie Redd. In five games with the Blaze, she is averaging 10.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.

Nygaard, a 6’1” forward, has played for four different teams (Cleveland 1999, Portland 2000-01, Miami 2002 and Los Angeles 2003) during her five-year WNBA career. Last season with the Sparks she appeared in 11 games, averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game. For her career she has appeared in 107 games, including 53 starts, averaging 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 16.2 minutes per game.

The Silver Stars open the 2004 season in Houston on Thursday, May 20 before hosting Swin Cash and the defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock in their regular season home opener on Saturday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the SBC Center. Full-season ticket prices are $132.30, $276.30, $366.30 and $564.30, while the 10-Game Weekend Pak (Friday, Saturday and Sunday games only) prices are $83.50, $163.50 and $233.50.
