Edwige Lawson-Wade Signed to Free-Agent Contract

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Silver Stars have signed Edwige Lawson-Wade, starting point guard for the French National Team, to a free-agent contract, Head Coach and General Manager Dan Hughes announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract have not been released.

“We are pleased to have Edwige join the Silver Stars,” said Hughes. “Her abilities with the ball and defensively will be a real asset to our growth and chemistry on the court.”

Lawson-Wade will enter her third season in the WNBA, although she has not played in the league since the 2006 season. She first joined the WNBA in 2005, signing as a free-agent with the New York Liberty before being traded to Houston later in the season. In 2006, Lawson-Wade once again signed as a free-agent, this time with Seattle. In her two seasons in the league, she has averaged 1.5 points in 7.44 minutes.

Lawson-Wade is currently playing with the CSKA Samara of the Russian Super League with Silver Star teammates Becky Hammon and Ann Wauters. She’s averaging 7.1 points and 3.9 assists per game in EuroLeague play, while picking up 8.5 points and 5.7 assists per game in Russian League play.

The Silver Stars open the 2008 season on the road at Sacramento May 17 before hosting the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury on May 20. Affordable full and partial season ticket plans are on sale now. Visit www.sasilverstars.com or call (210) 444.5090 for more information.
