Silver Stars Assistant Coach Brian Agler
“It was a good win for us. It was a big win for us across the board.
The Eastern and Western Conferences are tight, so we need to find a way to stay
in there and we need to keep getting better. We caught a break because they
were on the end of a back-to-back and we had a week off, so that was a little
advantage. This was a game we needed. I’m proud of the way we played.”
“I talked with Coach (Hughes) all week. He went to the doctor on Monday
and realized he would probably have to have surgery. On Wednesday he made the
decision and on Thursday he had surgery. We talked quite a bit. We were glad
he was here tonight; it shows he is getting better. He was happy with how they
played. It was a team effort tonight across the board.”
Guard Becky Hammon
“We had a good game plan. I think I had the ultimate scout on me. They
knew a lot of the things I do, so I knew it was important to get the ball to
other people. Sophia had a great game tonight and so did Erin. It was an all-around
team effort. We still have a long way to go. This was a game we needed to win
and it didn’t matter who we were playing. We were on a two game skid and
we needed to get a “W.”
“We knew they would make a push, but we gutted it out. It wasn’t
pretty at the end, but we’ll take “w’s” no matter how
they come. They (Liberty) missed shots they would usually make, but they were
on a back-to-back. We know we’ll have a dogfight when we play them in
a week.”
Forward Erin Buescher
“Every team has a run in them; we just lost our composure. That’s
what opponents want you to do, but we played through it. It happens. We just
have to use it for next time this situation occurs.”
Liberty Head Coach Pat Coyle:
(On tonight’s game)
“I’m really proud of our players. We’re on a tough back to
back. I thought we got back in the game, but they (Silver Stars) just never
quit and that team is not going to quit.”
“We got to get back to trusting each other. I thought we did a mush better
job of that in the second half. For some reason we’ve gotten away from
that, but in the second half is more of who we are. We’ve got to get back
to trusting ourselves and trusting each other.”
Shameka Christon:
(On the game tonight)
“We played in spurts and we can’t play like that. We have to be
ready to play for 40 minutes and I don’t think we did that tonight. I
would definitely say that our energy level was the difference in the game tonight.”
(When the Liberty cut the lead to eight in the fourth)
“I thought we were going to come back, we were playing really hard. We
were getting steals and stops and scores, but there just a veteran team. There
a pretty smart team that San Antonio has.”
