Silver Stars Head Coach Candi Harvey:
On
the slow start - "It’s the eighth chapter as far as putting
two halves together. I just thought we came out tonight in the
first five minutes and played without a lot of confidence. I
don’t
think there’s
any getting around the fact that the second half of that L.A.
game kind of deflated us a little bit. We just have to move past
that."
On
the second-half surge and collapse - "In the second half,
I thought we came out and were much more aggressive. We made a
game out of it. Then, when we got it cut close, I thought we started
going one-on-one too much. We needed to do what got us to that
point – which was getting stops defensively."
On
Michelle Snow - "Snow went off on us. Michelle Snow, in
my estimation, is one of the most improved players in the league
right now. I am really impressed with that young lady. She did
what she needed to do, as far as taking the ball to the rack. I
thought we did a good job against (Sheryl) Swoopes. I thought we
did a good job against (Tina) Thompson. But this Houston team is
more than a two-man show now, as younger players and new players
are evolving in their system."
On
Tai Dillard - "I
was pleased with Tai Dillard, our rookie off the bench, with
her attacking and aggressive mentality. We
need to continue to look at that to get a boost and some energy
off of our bench."
On
Margo Dydek’s early foul trouble - "Margo has played
very well against Houston and getting that third foul halfway through
the first half… because they have not had an answer for her
in our previous games. There was no getting around it. I possibly
should have went to some zone and tried to hide her a little bit,
but I was afraid if we went to zone we would lose any sign of aggressiveness
whatsoever."

Jackson:
On
the slow start - "I don’t think it was a carry over
from the L.A. game. It took us a long time to figure out how
they were playing us and how they were guarding us – they
were stacking and switching things and really got in the passing
lanes. We really just didn’t start the game off aggressive."
On
the second-half run - "I think we attacked and moved the
ball and took open shots. We ran on them in transition and made
them play both ends of the floor and wore them down a little bit."
On
Houston’s 16-4 run to end the game - "We
just didn’t
finish. I think we played good defense in spurts, then we didn’t
box out, didn’t crash, didn’t take the ball to the
hole and didn’t finish."
On
her season-high 15 points - "I’ve really been working
on shooting my shot and playing my game. I’m a scorer – I
can do more than one thing. I just have to do that every night.
It’s a confidence thing. I’m just learning to take
what they give me."

Head Coach Van Chancellor:
On
the game - "I thought that all the hard work that we’ve been
doing has paid off. Any time you can hold the team we’ve always had
a problem with (San Antonio/Utah) to 32% shooting, to out-rebound
them was truly amazing. I thought our last 2 practices really paid
dividends. Michelle was as good as it gets tonight, 19 points, 8
rebounds against
a 7’2" player; she was outstanding. Tiffani Johnson gave us
7 rebounds and 6 points and that’s what we’ve been missing.
I thought Tiffani Johnson gave us an emotional spark. I thought Tiffani
(Johnson) and Michelle (Snow) were outstanding tonight. Tina (Thompson)
came on and played well at the end. Everybody that’s coming in here
is over-playing us something awful. I thought getting Margo Dydek
in foul trouble early really helped us because we were able to slow
her inside
which we haven’t been able to do. If you’re going to beat San
Antonio, you’ve got to get (Margo) Dydek in foul trouble."
On
the play of the team - "I thought we played better team defense
and we made a little scheme change and that helped. I came here tonight
with a little different game plan. We pressured the ball more, denied their
pass and did a better job of pressuring them more and not letting them
pass. I thought we struggled a little bit offensively, but that was because
we haven’t had all the practice time together with the same 5, but
I wasn’t particularly happy with our defense with giving up so many
points around here, that I wasn’t paying much attention to the offense.
I’m just glad that we were finally able to run the ball, to get the
ball out. We didn’t have but 12 turnovers, but they were inappropriate
turnovers, at-the-wrong-time turnovers, turnovers that weren’t called
for. If I had to do this over again, I’d try and get Sheryl (Swoopes)
a few more shots, but it just didn’t work out that way. They (opponents)
won’t let her hang on the ball, they’re just playing her man
everywhere, away from and off the ball, and it’s just tough on her."
On the
play of Ukari Figgs - "(Ukari) Figgs is getting better and
better and better, she’s just got a lot of things to learn. I think
she runs the scheme really well, she’s a good shooter, but it’s
like pulling eyeteeth to get her to shoot. I’d like to see her get
more demonstrative on shooting."

Thompson:
On
the play of the team - "I think everything we did today
in the game was deserving of a win. I felt we executed our offense
well. There were a few minutes in the 2nd half where we got a
little lazy mentally, but when we got back t our game plan, we
executed. I think our team played exceptionally well on defense
and executed our defensive plan for the game, as well as Michelle
(Snow). She played a great game. She did everything that we have
been wanting her to do for a long time. She gave Margo (Dydek)
a run for her money today."
On
defensive factor today - "I think that’s what it was.
Everyone took responsibility for their player and turned that into
a team defensive kind of concept."

Snow:
On
her overall game - "I played her (Margo Dydek) the same
way last week that I played this week. I just came out and played
hard. I think this week I probably had a little more motivation
since we lost (against L.A.) and played that hard last week.
I just wanted to come out and give everything I had; the whole
team did. Last week was a hard loss for us. We played hard and
we kept trying."
On
playing against Margo Dydek - "She is 7’2" and
intimidating in the paint. If you can get her on the bench, that
is going to help our team. She’s going to block shots, she
is going to get rebounds, and we need to open that up so we can
get those rebounds and that our team can get easy buckets and we
did that tonight."
On
taking it upon herself to take over - "Everyone has been
telling me that ‘you have the ability to take over.’ We
were struggling; I knew that if I took over and took it to (Margo)
Dydek, we would take their key player out of the game. We would
give ourselves and advantage, so I took it to heart."
